In a bid to address the rising issue of drug abuse among youths, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for a partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The student body aims to combat drug abuse and trafficking among young people.

During a visit to the NDLEA headquarters in Abeokuta, Ogun State, NANS leaders including Abdulyekinn Oduanyo, NANS Chairman Ogun JCC Francis Adeyanju, and NAOSS Global President Kehinde Thomas emphasized the urgent need for action. They highlighted the prevalence of drug-related challenges affecting Nigerian youth, stressing the importance of expanding awareness campaigns into campuses and communities through student leaders.

Oduanyo underscored that while enforcement efforts by NDLEA have been commendable, more proactive measures are needed to educate students and families about the dangers of drug abuse. He emphasized the role of student leaders in disseminating crucial information and advocated for collaborative efforts to address the root causes of the problem.

In response, NDLEA State Commander Tijjani Rabe, represented by Deputy State Commander Ekundayo Williams, acknowledged the agency’s enforcement actions and expressed readiness to collaborate with NANS. Williams emphasized the importance of awareness campaigns in protecting youths and affirmed NDLEA’s commitment to tackling drug abuse comprehensively.

The collaboration between NANS and NDLEA seeks to empower Nigerian students in combating drug abuse effectively, aiming to safeguard the future of the youth.
