A motorcyclist lost his life in a tragic accident involving a commercial motorcycle, popularly known as Okada, and a truck belonging to Dangote Group, along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, near Area B, Point Road, Lagos.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident on Wednesday, attributing the accident to reckless driving by the truck driver.

According to a statement by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Taofiq Adebayo, the collision occurred as the truck driver lost control and rammed into the motorcyclist, who was carrying a female passenger.

“The truck driver was driving dangerously, which led to the immediate death of the motorcyclist at the scene,” Adebayo said.

Despite the severity of the crash, LASTMA officials promptly arrived at the scene and rushed the injured female passenger to the Apapa General Hospital for urgent medical care.

“The swift intervention by our officers ensured the injured passenger received immediate attention,” Adebayo added.

The truck driver and his assistant, however, fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. LASTMA, in collaboration with the Area B Police Station, secured the truck and handed it over to law enforcement authorities for further investigation.

“The vehicle has been taken into police custody as investigations are ongoing,” Adebayo confirmed.

In response to the tragic event, LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, issued a stern warning to truck drivers across the state.

He emphasized the importance of observing speed limits and ensuring their vehicles are properly maintained before hitting the road.

“We strongly advise truck drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and that speed limits are strictly adhered to,” Bakare-Oki stated.

He also called on commercial motorcyclists to avoid restricted routes, including highways and bridges in Lagos, as a measure to prevent similar incidents.

“Motorcyclists must desist from using prohibited routes for their safety and the safety of other road users,” Bak
