A tragic accident occurred in Akure on Monday night when 71-year-old Dayo Komolafe was crushed to death by a motorcyclist, Femi Oluwole. The incident happened around 8:00 pm at Leo Junction on Oyemekun Road.
Oluwole, who was riding a blue TVS motorcycle with the number plate FAB117VO, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrates’ Court. He faces a three-count charge including reckless driving causing death, driving without a valid license, and lacking proper documentation.
Police prosecutor Inspector Nelson Akintimehin stated that Oluwole drove dangerously and recklessly on the public highway, disregarding the safety of other road users. This negligence resulted in the death of Komolafe right in front of his residence.
In court, Oluwole’s counsel, Mr. Kehinde Akintelure, requested bail for his client on liberal terms, noting that the families of both Oluwole and the deceased were attempting to reach an out-of-court settlement.
Presiding Magistrate Kolawole Aro granted bail to Oluwole in the amount of N500,000 with one surety in a similar sum. The case has been adjourned to October 31, 2024, for further hearing.
