Nigerian Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) have introduced new prices for electricity meters, marking the second hike in just four months.
The price adjustments, which took effect on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, follow the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) directive for Meter Asset Providers (MAP) deregulation.
The latest changes bring significant increases across different meter types.
According to the DisCos, single-phase meters now range from around N117,000 to N149,800, depending on the provider and the vendor.
This marks a sharp rise from previous prices and has been attributed to market-driven adjustments amid deregulation.
For example, Eko DisCo has priced single-phase meters between N135,987.5 and N161,035, while three-phase meters are set at N226,600 to N266,600.
In Ibadan, single-phase meters now range from N130,998 to N142,548, with three-phase options costing between N226,556.25 and N232,008.04.
Meanwhile, Abuja DisCo offers single-phase meters from N123,130.53 to N147,812.5 and three-phase meters from N206,345.65 to N236,500.
Similar price adjustments have been made across other regions, including Kano and Kaduna DisCos, reflecting increases due to both supply costs and VAT inclusions.
Price Range Across Major DisCos
In Kano, single-phase meters now range from N127,925 to N129,999.75, and three-phase meters are between N223,793 and N235,425. Kaduna DisCo has revised its single-phase meter prices to between N131,150 and N142,548.94, while three-phase meters are priced between N220,375 and N232,008.04.
These new rates, as listed by DisCos, include VAT, with prices varying slightly by vendor and distribution area.
