Rainstorm has wrecked havoc in Awowo Community in Ewekoro Local Government Area, Ogun State and destroyed properties worth millions of naira.
The Thursday evening torrential downpour, which lasted for hours, also destroyed some electricity facilities across the town, thereby subjecting residents to total blackout.
The Alawowo of Awowo, HRM Oba AbdulGafar Olasunkanmi Tijani made this known in a release signed on Friday and obtained by Tropic Reporters correspondent in Abeokuta.
Oba Tijani said the natural disaster which affected residential and commercial buildings has rendered many residents homeless.
The monarch however urged the governments to come to the aid of people in the community to mitigate whatever effect the situation must have caused them.
He said, “This is to formally, bring to your notice that a natural disaster have wreaked havoc in Awowo Town, causing untold hardship to victims of the incident”.
“Several buildings, electric poles, including residential and commercial houses have had their roofs blown off by rainstorm in Awowo”.
“The natural disaster has turned many residents and indigenes into refugees in their homestead and are now at the mercy of families, friends and philanthropists”.
“Many of these victims are peasant farmers and aged who now look up to whoever that can help for succour in form of relief materials and cash”.
“Awowo Town is seeking your intervention in terms of relief materials and other assistance to overcome these burden”.
“Thank you as we await your quick response to these urgent needs.”, the monarch added.
