Guinness World Records (GWR) is searching for a man named Waweru, who claims to have the longest nails in Africa, to participate in a global competition.
However, GWR Talent Researcher Charlie Anderson clarified that Waweru is not an automatic record holder, as they expect others with extremely long nails to come forward and compete.
GWR has long been fascinated by the category of longest nails, with many wondering what motivates people to grow them so long.
Some individuals, like Lee Redmond, who holds the record for the longest fingernails on a pair of hands (female), started growing them as a personal challenge. Others, like Louise Hollis, who held the record for the longest toenails, were inspired by TV programs featuring similar records.
Odilon Ozare, who created acrylic nail extensions measuring 1.21 meters, was inspired by a bird digging its talons into his shoulder.
Social media users have mixed reactions, with some arguing that having such long nails makes it difficult to clench your fist and would only be useful for slapping. Others are impressed by the nail color and have shared their own similar nail photos.
The viral video, initially shared on TikTok, was reposted on another platform by @Skeliora_ with the caption “Fighting with long nails.” GWR is now calling on anyone with extremely long nails to come forward and compete for the record.
