A regrettable incident occurred at a Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited petrol station in the Obalende area of Lagos State on Wednesday evening, resulting in the unfortunate death of a man named Toheeb Eniasa, who was fatally shot by armed security operatives.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident began when two men, believed to be military officers, arrived at the station to purchase fuel, bypassing the long queue of motorists and residents who had been waiting for an extended period. When Toheeb Eniasa and others politely requested that the officers join the queue, a verbal exchange escalated into a physical altercation, culminating in the tragic shooting.
Witnesses identify the shooters as men from the Department of State Services (DSS), who promptly left the scene after the incident, leaving the area in a state of disarray. An irate crowd responded by burning two security vans.
This incident occurs amidst a severe fuel shortage in Lagos, which has led to increased transport fares and lengthy queues at filling stations.
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing to identify the shooter.
The tragic event has sparked concern and sadness among residents, highlighting the need for improved security measures and effective management of resources during times of scarcity.
