The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has announced Chief Olalekan Shoyinka, affectionately known as “Ayinla Egba,” as its consensus candidate for the chairmanship of Abeokuta South Local Government.
This decision was unveiled during the party’s state congress and primaries held on Saturday.
Yeye Olufunke Olanrewaju, the state chairperson, led the event and endorsed Ayinla Egba, citing his deep-rooted connection to the community and his broad appeal as critical factors in his selection. “Ayinla Egba is the right choice to lead Abeokuta South,” Olanrewaju stated.
In addition to the chairmanship nomination, the ADP presented its candidates for councillor positions across the 15 wards in the local government area.
Following his nomination, Ayinla Egba expressed his gratitude for the robust support he has received from residents throughout his campaign.
He highlighted that several communities have completed development projects in his name as a gesture of solidarity.
“I am deeply appreciative of the support from the people. It has been overwhelming,” Egba remarked.
He committed to prioritizing good governance and a people-centered approach if elected. “We are going to do good. We are going to use the office to ensure good governance,” he affirmed.
Egba further indicated that his leadership would focus on the interests and needs of the community, noting, “We have no choice but to run people-interest governance because this is not our last bus stop.” His comments hint at broader political aspirations beyond the current role.
As the local government elections approach, Ayinla Egba is positioning himself as a candidate committed to the development and well-being of Abeokuta South, promising a leadership dedicated to tangible progress and community engagement.
