The Lagos State Government has issued a stop-work order to owners of some structures being constructed without planning permit in some areas of Lagos Island, particularly Bamgbose and Campbell streets.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako gave the order recently during his inspection tour of the area, charging residents to follow due process in obtaining Planning Permit before construction.

He added that it was not going to be business as usual for developers and house owners who are in the habit of violating the State planning laws by not building according to the rules.

The Commissioner disclosed that anyone found culpable would be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law, urging building contractors to engage professionals in executing their projects.

Salako reiterated that the Lagos State Government would continue to maintain its zero tolerance policy on illegal building construction, engagement of unprofessional contractors, usage of substandard building materials and non-conformity with due process in getting Planning Permit.

“We would not allow anyone or group of persons under the guise of bringing development to the State to endanger the lives and property of Lagosians”, he affirmed.
