The General Manager, Lagos Traffic Radio, Mr. Tayo Akanle has disclosed the Station’s readiness to support the Lagos State Ferry Services Corporation (LAGFERRY) in its sensitisation and awareness drive on waterways transportation for enhanced productivity and as part of efforts to decongest the roads.
Akanle, who led the management team of the Station on a courtesy visit to the Managing Director/CEO, LAGFERRY, Mr. AbdoulBaq Ladi-Balogun in his office, stated that Traffic Radio’s appreciable audience base and strong online presence will aid the enlightenment of Lagosians to boost patronage of the ferry service.
The General Manager further stated that having unfettered access to accurate and seamless traffic information on movements on waterways from the Agency would enhance the choice of commuters in Lagos while enriching the synergy existing between both Agencies.
He maintained that since the expansion of its frontiers to include the provision of traffic information on other modes of transportation such as flight schedules and movements on the waterways rather than focusing on roads alone, the Station has already positioned itself to improve on rendering this vital social service to Lagosians.
According to him “The partnership will not only be of an immense benefit to Lagosians, it will also lay credence to the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to deliver a reliable, safe, efficient and effective transportation system that will enhance the mass movement of Lagosians”.
In his response, the Managing Director/CEO, Lagos State Ferry Services Corporation, Mr. AbdoulBaq Ladi-Balogun stated that the partnership is timely and pledged the Corporation’s readiness to leverage on the alliance and ultimately decongest the roads.
The Managing Director stressed that the target of LAGFERRY is to achieve a 30 per cent movement of Lagos commuters on the waterways as soon as possible, adding that the Agency has some of the best ferries in the country and would soon take possession of more.
He posited that the Corporation intends to play a significant role in the Multi-Modal Transportation initiative of the present administration to decongest the roads, stressing that the policy would be in full effect within the next two years, with Mile 2 and Marina being the major hubs.
