In a bid to restore order and align with the state’s THEMES PLUS Agenda, the Lagos State Taskforce conducted an early morning operation on Friday, demolishing over 50 illegal structures along Agungi Ajiran Road in Lekki.

According to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Taskforce, the operation aimed to address environmental degradation, security risks, and disruption of peace in the neighborhood caused by the illegal structures.

Akerele noted that eviction notices had been issued to occupants two weeks prior, but they refused to vacate the premises. He emphasized that the structures violated physical planning regulations in the Lekki-Epe area and tarnished the planned residential zone.

The Taskforce Chairman assured residents that demolition efforts would continue, as more shanties in the Lekki area had been served removal notices.

He urged occupants to voluntarily vacate and dismantle illegal structures to avoid forced demolition.

Akerele also encouraged residents to report suspicious activities through the agency’s feedback channels, saying, “If you see something, say something,” to help curb the spread of illegal structures.”
