Lagos State Government has donated cash gifts, household items, food and drinks to various Orphanages, Homes and Children’s Centres across the State in commemoration of its Year 2022 Public Service Week Celebration.

The gesture, according to the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, is a way of identifying with the children, homes, orphanages and charity organisations during the celebration of the public service week.

Muri-Okunola, speaking during the presentation of the donated items to representatives of the beneficiaries on Monday at the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, commended the presentation committee, headed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Dr. Olugbenga Aina, for the impressive and laudable effort towards the success of the Public Service Week.

He maintained that the donation was made possible through the contributions of public servants and not from a government account, expressing his appreciation to all civil servants, especially those that contributed to making the segment of the week-long event a huge success.

“Let me use this great opportunity to, first of all, applaud the committee saddled with the planning of the presentation. As you can see, all the items donated were not from the government but from public servants to provide succour to homes, orphanages and charity organisations. This is quite impressive. I thank everyone that has contributed one thing or the other to make this presentation possible today”, Muri-Okunola said.

The Matron of Motherless Babies Home, Lekki, Lagos, Mrs. Modupeola Adebukola, speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, thanked the Lagos Public Service for the donation, praying that God will continue to bless and protect their homes.

Mrs. Adebukola described the gesture as an act of love and kindness that would for long be remembered and appreciated by the beneficiaries, saying “This gesture was probably what they least expected on a day like this, especially from public servants”.

Some of the beneficiary Orphanages and Homes include Motherless Babies Home, Lekki; Heart of Gold Children Hospice, Surulere; Missionaries of Charity, Ikeja; Children Centre, Idi-Araba; Tripple Passion Home Initiative, Magodo and Old Peoples Home, Yaba, among others.
