Following a tragedy that struck on Sunday at Lafenwa Market when a fuel-laden tanker exploded causing death of some people.

The explosion which occurred at a failed portion of the railway on the Lafenwa-Ojurin-Ayetoro Road in the Abeokuta-North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The tanker, loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), overturned when its axle broke, as it started spilling its content on the road.

Giveevenhands initiative in partnership with the Young African Leaders Initiative Ogun State (YALI OGUN) and Securecycle Environmental & Climate Change Initiative on Thursday organized an Environmental Emergency Response (EER) project by visiting Lafenwa Market in Ogun State to educate the market community about the importance of a clean market and also to train them on how to prepare for future occurrence.

A stakeholders engagement was carried out on 1st December, 2021 where our representatives met with the constituted authority (Babaloja).

The outreach started by joining the market sanitation team, after which engagements was held with some of the market women to share their experiences on the fire outbreak that happened in the market.

Some of them lost their produce, goods, equipment, and shops totally to the incident.

Gradually they are rebuilding and we joined them in taking away some of the dirts in the market as well as debris from that fire incident.

The cleanup ended with the advice and prayer from one of the market women where she encouraged members of the Initiatives to continue on this great path towards ensuring a good environment suitable for leaving.

We believed that to live a healthy life, it is a must that we consciously build health.

To this end, we encourage everyone to be part of the solution and not the pollution.
