Prince Asamah Kadiri, SAN, the Labour Party’s deputy governorship candidate for the ongoing Edo State election, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of engaging in vote buying.

Speaking after casting his vote in Auchi Ward 1, Unit 6, Kadiri highlighted what he termed “desperate measures” employed by the APC, noting that he witnessed incidents of electoral malpractice firsthand in Auchi and across the Edo North district.

“It is unfortunate that the APC is involved in vote buying in my unit. Reports I have received from Auchi and the broader Edo North area indicate that the APC is purchasing votes for as much as N10,000,” Kadiri stated.

Despite these troubling reports, Kadiri praised the bravery of some voters who resisted the pressure from the APC and chose to vote according to their preferences.

He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its efforts in overseeing the election.

However, Kadiri emphasized that it is premature to fully assess INEC’s performance at this stage. He urged the electoral body to closely monitor its officials to prevent any potential electoral fraud, reinforcing the importance of integrity in the electoral process.
