The Kwara State government has announced that disciplinary action will be taken against a school teacher who allegedly assaulted a female youth corps member serving in the state.
In a statement released on Friday, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, strongly condemned the attack on the corps member, which occurred at Government Day Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin.
The teacher involved in the incident has been identified as Mrs. Fatima Hamzat.
Reports indicate that the assault took place on Thursday when Mrs. Hamzat allegedly accused the corps member of disrespect and proceeded to attack her.
Morakinyo Oladipo, the head of Information and Public Relations for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kwara, confirmed the incident and stated that the NYSC would pursue legal action to address the assault.
“The state government has been informed through the Ministry of Youth Development,” Oladipo said. “In the meantime, the corps member will be reposted to a different location to help her recover from the trauma.”
Oladipo emphasized that all necessary steps were being taken to seek justice for the assaulted corps member. “It’s a fact. The story is true, and we are taking all necessary actions,” he added.
The Commissioner for Education also expressed disapproval of the teacher’s conduct, calling it “unacceptable.” She urged the NYSC and all concerned parties to continue their work without fear of retaliation, assuring that the teacher involved had been summoned and will face appropriate disciplinary procedures.
The Kwara State government has vowed to take all necessary measures to ensure that such incidents do not occur again in the future.
