Abeokuta – The Ogun State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into an attempted assassination attempt on Adebowale Kayode Emmanuel Igbooye, a chief from Iredo community in Lagos State.
The Ogun State Police Command, in a statement signed by SP Omolola Odutola, Police Public Relations Officer, said Igbooye reported that he was attacked by unknown assailants while traveling from Ijebu Ode to Ikorodu via the Ijebu Ode/Epe Expressway on August 12, 2024.
Igbooye alleged that a suspicious Toyota Camry car marked “Oriwu One” trailed and double-crossed him, forcefully taking his right of way. He claimed that the suspects gave him a hot chase until he hid at Eredo Junction in Lagos State.
Further investigation revealed that Igbooye had been threatened by Barrister Wasiu Musa Adebamowo from Igbooye, Lagos State, over a power struggle within the ruling family regarding the coronation of a new king, despite the current king being alive and well.
Igbooye narrated that he discovered another Lexus sport car speeding towards his vehicle, but he quickly changed his route towards Ijebu Ode, narrowly escaping the attack. He heard gunshots aimed at his car near Itawo Community Junction in Ogun State, prompting him to flee to Ijebu-Ode for safety, abandoning his vehicle midway on the highway.
The police have recovered the vehicle damaged by gunshots and have commenced preliminary investigations to ensure no lives are lost. Detectives have visited the scene to maintain peace and prevent further escalation.
The Ogun State Police Command assured that the Command is working tirelessly to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attempted assassination and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
