An emergency security council meeting had held this Sunday at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt and it discussed required measures to undertake in bringing the killers of the Ahoada Divisional Police Officer Superintendent of Police, Bako Angbashim to book
The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara briefed newsmen after the meeting and declared that his administration will not rest on its oars until one Mr. Gift David Okpara Okpolowu (a.k.a. 2-Baba) and his criminal gang revealed to be behind the killing are apprehended.
Those who attended the security council meeting included the 6 Division of Nigerian Army, Garrison Commander Brig. Gen. E. U. Effiong, Group Captain A. H. Idris, the Commander of 115, Special Operation Group and Commodore D.O.C. Igbo, the Commander of NNS, Pathfinder.
Others were, Polycap Emeka Nwonyi, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, Basil Igwebueze, the Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rivers State Command and Director of the Department of State Security, Rivers State Command.
Governor Fubara said it is unacceptable for any group of miscreants to portray the State as being unsafe when his administration is doing everything possible to reduce the crime rate.
The governor emphasised that severe security measures have therefore, been triggered to make sure that the current sad occurrence is attended to conclusively.
“We have gone further to show our commitment to this particular issue by placing a bounty of one hundred million (N100,000,000.00) naira on the criminal, Mr. Gift David Okpara Okpolowu (a.k.a. 2-Baba) to anyone who gives useful information that would lead to his arrest and prosecution. We must get him death or alive because we have to make a statement that such acts are not tolerated in this State.
“We have also suspended the traditional ruler of that locality, His Royal Majesty, Eze Cassidy Ikegbidi as the Eze Igbu Akoh II indefinitely for acts of complicity in ceding control of his territory to the notorious Mr. David Gift and his gang to freely operate and carry out their criminal activities.”
Governor Fubara said further that Rivers State has never and will never be a home for criminality and expressed confidence in the calibre of men who are in-charge of the various security agencies in the State.
He assured that the State government will give them the neccessary support so that they can do everything within their power to settle and resolve this matter as soon as possible.
