A former Delta State commissioner for technical education, Hon. Joan Onyemaechi, who was kidnapped on July 30 from her church along DBS Road in Asaba, has been released.

Onyemaechi, a former member of the House of Representatives, regained freedom at the weekend.

It was gathered that she arrived the state capital and headed to a hospital. The abductors had demanded N1 billion ransom, but it was not clear if that was paid before her release.

Spokesman of the state police command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the release, but did not give details. A policeman and driver were killed during the kidnap.
