The Kano State Police Command has initiated legal proceedings against 600 out of the 873 individuals arrested in connection with the destruction and looting during the recent End Bad Governance protests in Kano.

State Police Commissioner Salman Dogo Garba informed the press on Monday that the suspects face charges including criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbances, rioting, theft, mischief, and arson. He detailed that 150 individuals were charged for breaching the curfew imposed by the Kano State Government, and six suspects connected to the destruction and looting of the Kano Printing Press (KPP) are still under investigation.

Additionally, Garba noted that 76 suspects, including a foreign national, were transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation on charges of sedition. Forty-one individuals were arrested for major crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and car theft.

The police also recovered substantial evidence, including two AK-47 rifles and other looted items from various locations including the Audu Bako Secretariat NCC Office, High Court Complexes, and supermarkets.

In total, the Command arrested suspects for various crimes, including four for kidnapping, five for armed robbery, eight for car theft, two for human trafficking, and 23 for involvement with thugs known locally as Yan Daba. They also seized four AK-47 rifles, one Beretta pistol, 47 rounds of live ammunition, eight motor vehicles, four sacks of Exol tablets, and two Bajaj Boxer motorcycles.
