The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of 326 suspected looters and vandals in relation to the recent #EndBadGovernance protests on August 1, 2024.

The arrests were confirmed by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, during a press conference at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano.

“The same suspects involved in the looting and vandalization, arrested and paraded by the Police Command on August 1, 2024, are here today for clarity,” Kiyawa stated.

“These despicable acts are calculated attempts by enemies of peace to tarnish the reputable image of the Nigeria Police.

These images showing suspects and exhibits are linked to the current incidents resulting from the ongoing August, 2024 Nationwide Protest and have no relation with any incident in the year 2011.”

Kiyawa emphasized that the suspects will be charged to court promptly, saying, “We will not hesitate to bring those responsible for these heinous crimes to justice.”

CP Salman Dogo Garba commended the Kano State Government for imposing a 24-hour curfew to curb unrest, saying, “The swift imposition of the curfew helped to prevent further breakdown of law and order in the state.”

Garba also urged residents to return any looted property to the nearest police station, stating, “We appeal to those who may have looted property to return them voluntarily, as this will help to reduce tension and promote peace in the state.”
