Abeokuta, Ogun State – A paint chemical explosion occurred on Thursday evening at about 4:45pm at a paint and chemical shop in the Arinlese area of Saje, Abeokuta, Ogun State, causing widespread panic.
However, thanks to the quick thinking and efforts of local residents, the resulting flames were swiftly extinguished, preventing any injuries or fatalities.
According to eyewitnesses, the explosion sent people scrambling for their lives, but the prompt intervention of the community ensured that the situation was brought under control, and no one was harmed.
“I was just walking by the shop when I heard a loud bang and saw flames everywhere. I was so scared, but thankfully, people quickly came to put out the fire,” said Abiola, a nearby resident.
“I was in my shop next door when the explosion happened. It was so loud and shook our entire building. We quickly evacuated,” added Mrs. Olufunke, a shop owner.
Tunde, an eyewitness, described the scene as “chaotic”, but praised the bravery of those who rushed to put out the fire. “I saw people running out of the shop, screaming and crying. It was chaotic, but then some brave men rushed in and saved the day.”
Other eyewitnesses also shared their accounts of the incident. “It was like a scene from a movie – flames everywhere, people running and screaming. But then, the community came together and saved the day,” added Lekan.
The cause of the explosion is currently unknown and is likely to be investigated by authorities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
No Injuries or Fatalities Reported
Despite the chaos caused by the explosion, residents and authorities breathed a sigh of relief as no injuries or fatalities were reported.
