The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, has been declared the winner of the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday.
The announcement was made by the Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna.
According to the official results, Okpebholo garnered 291,667 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who polled 247,274 votes. The Labour Party candidate, Olumide Akpata, came in third with 22,763 votes.
The APC secured victory in 11 local government areas, while the PDP won in seven. The APC dominated in Edo North Senatorial District, winning all six local governments, as well as two out of five local governments in Edo Central Senatorial District.
The party also won three out of seven local governments in Edo South Senatorial District.
In Edo Central, the APC won in Esan Central, where its candidate Okpebholo hails from, and Esan West, while the PDP claimed victory in Esan North East, Igueben, and Esan South East, the local government of Ighodalo.
In Edo South, the APC triumphed in Egor, Oredo, and Orhionmwon local governments, while the PDP secured Uhunmwonde, Ovia North East, and Ovia South West.
The PDP also claimed victory in Ikpoba Okha local government, where its deputy governorship candidate, Osarodion Ogie, the immediate past Secretary to the Edo State Government, hails from.
