Judgement day in Ogun, as Governor Abiodun, Adebutu know fate in election petition

There are strong anticipation among members of the All Progressives Congress, APC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ogun state as the election petition tribunal delivers judgement today in the petition filed by the PDP and its governorship candidate in the Match 18, 2023 poll.

The PDP and Ladi Adebutu are challenging the declaration of Governor Dapo Abiodun of the APC as the winner of the governorship poll by the independent national electoral commission, INEC.

Adebutu in his petition is seeking the nullification of Governor Abiodun as winner of the election, saying that the election was marred with corrupt practices and non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

However, in their separate submissions, counsels to the 1st respondent (INEC), Mr Remi Olatubora (SAN), 2nd (Dapo Abiodun), Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), and the 3rd (APC), Mr Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), told the tribunal that the petitioners failed to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Hamidu Kunaza, had reserved the judgment shortly after the two parties adopted their written addresses on September 4, 2023.

Notable bigwigs in the two parties are expected to attend today’s sitting.

Roads leading to the venue of the tribunal sitting in isabo area of Abeokuta the state capital will also be condone off by security operatives to restrict vehicular traffic around the vicinity.
