The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has called on universities across Nigeria to incorporate entrepreneurship courses and skills development programs to foster self-reliance among graduates.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Olyede, emphasized the need for educational institutions to produce job creators rather than job seekers. Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum hosted by Amadeus University in Amizi, Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, he highlighted the vision for universities to be centers of leadership, innovation, and change, free from criminal activities and cultism.
Prof. Olyede, represented by Juliet Anikwe, Abia State Coordinator for JAMB, confirmed that Amadeus University has received all necessary approvals and expressed confidence in the institution’s ability to fulfill its mission. He assured ongoing collaboration between JAMB and the university.
Abia State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Eme Uche Eme, stressed that private universities in the state must adhere to high educational standards. She urged Amadeus University to align with the state’s educational reforms and maintain rigorous standards, particularly regarding staff qualifications, security, and zero tolerance for cultism.
Prof. Eme praised the establishment of Amadeus University as a significant investment in the future of education and youth development. She emphasized the importance of innovative teaching, research, and community engagement.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Samuel Nzotta assured that the university is ready for its September opening, with full accreditation for 19 programs across 13 departments and four faculties. He reiterated the university’s commitment to producing globally competitive graduates.
Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, who previously chaired the National Universities Commission’s Standing Committee on Private Universities, expressed approval of the institution’s facilities.
Traditional Ruler of Amizi Autonomous Community, His Royal Highness Eze Ozo Ananaba, pledged the community’s support and cooperation, celebrating the university’s establishment on their land.
