Investigation Begins as Naval Officer Kills Colleague in Zamfara

A naval officer has reportedly killed a fellow soldier under unclear circumstances in Zamfara State, the Defence Media Operations disclosed.

The incident, as confirmed by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, occurred on October 25, 2024, around 03:12 hrs.

The suspect, identified as LS Akila A, was stationed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Dansadau as part of Operation FANSAN YAMMA when he allegedly opened fire, resulting in the tragic death of his colleague.

Following the incident, “the errant personnel was promptly arrested, disarmed, and placed in detention,” stated General Buba.

He added that an investigation has been launched and is currently underway. “After investigation, the case will be escalated to a standing court martial set up to address such misdemeanour among troops,” he confirmed.

The Defence Director also noted that the process of notifying the family of the deceased is ongoing, and, as a result, the name of the victim has not yet been released to the public. “The name will be disclosed in due course,” he assured.

General Buba appealed to journalists to report the incident with sensitivity, urging them to consider the potential impact on the family of the deceased.
