The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Ondo State governorship election held on Saturday.
The announcement was made by the INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi, at 2:29 p.m. on Sunday at the State Collation Center in Akure, the Ondo State capital. Prof. Akinwunmi, who also serves as the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja, announced the final results after collating votes from all 18 local government areas.
According to the results, Aiyedatiwa garnered 366,781 votes, defeating his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 117,845 votes. The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 4,138 votes.
Announcing the official figures, Prof. Akinwunmi said:
“A – 186, AA – 58, AAC – 304, ADC – 4,138, ADP – 1,522, APC – 366,781, APGA – 623, APM – 162, APP – 83, LP – 1,162, NNPP – 206, NRM – 298, PDP – 117,845, PRP – 229, SDP – 438, YP – 134, YPP – 216, ZLP – 2,692.”
He further disclosed the overall statistics:
“Total valid votes: 497,077; rejected votes: 11,886; total votes cast: 508,963. PVCs collected: 1,757,205, with registered voters exceeding 2 million.”
Declaring the winner, the Returning Officer stated, “That Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the APC, having satisfied all the requirements of the law and scored the majority of the lawful votes, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”
The results also confirmed Aiyedatiwa’s dominance as he won across all 18 local government areas in the state, including the strongholds of his opponents.
