In its resolve to checkmate the incessant road crashes that often lead to loss of lives and properties of road users and pedestrians, the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Transportation has signed a memorandum of understanding alongside the leaderships of the various representatives of Associations operating trucks, tippers and lorries in the State.
Consequently, the concerned stakeholders including the representatives of Ajowa Tipper/Lorry Owners and Drivers Association, First Nigeria Tipper Drivers Association, Temidire Tipper/Lorry Drivers Association, Newborn Owners and Drivers Association and State Unified Trailers and Tippers Owners and Drivers Association (OGSUTTODA) jointly signed the memorandum of understanding to regulate their members’ operation at the instance of the Assembly to curb the menace.
According to the MoU, the movements of ‘iron body/Kasabubu’ from Mologede to Sango-Ota had been restricted to one trip daily, just as they unanimously considered only two trips daily from any type of vehicle moving on the same route.
It was agreed that only two trips daily would henceforth be allowed from anywhere in the State to Ifo regardless of the type of vehicles, likewise one trip per day for any type of vehicles anywhere in the State to Sango, with a restriction of movement for tippers/lorries and trucks at night.
The MoU also imposed a fine of N20, 000 on defaulters or outright offloading of affected trucks, while it was resolved that the associations set in motion measures towards ensuring enforcement of the regulations, with a decision to prosecute whosoever challenges or engages members of the taskforce in the cause of enforcing the jointly signed agreement.
