The expulsion of Ifemosu Micheal Adewale by the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) last Friday, is another loophole created within our educational system, especially at the higher institutions, which of course, has always been a tendency to create more evil within the sector.

It is believed that the educational systems are meant to reform and built individuals, made them articulate the virtue of standing against bad leadership too and also made them the so-called “tomorrow’s leaders” not cutting them shut off when they point out inadequacies of an Institution to it, strong voice in order for it to find a solution towards it.

Ifemosu, had on July 12, 2019 written an open letter to the management of the Institution calling their attention towards what the students are facing within the Institution, among which is the bad transportation system of students, another is, the necessity to upgrade the technological advancement of students, sporting activities and academic prowress. Also, calling the management attention to the frequent harrassment of students that time by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and using the opportunity to extort them.

Meanwhile, the management took the highlighted issues otherwise and he was called to defend himself, at a panel, and yet having done that, they still went ahead to expel him.

On this, this calls on reasons why our academic environment keeps getting deteriorating and not developing, mainly because of issues like this, one wouldn’t have the stance to call their attention to it, of course, that’s what we get at our various levels of government and administration. They don’t want criticism or calling their attention towards something, but all they want is commendation and appraisal.

We no longer have capable and working Students’ Union Government (SUG) at our various higher institutions again, all because they fear not to have a kind of Ifemosu’s treatment. I also remember that this kind of treatment was meted our to one Adeyeye Oluwafemi, of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), some few years back when he also called the attention of the University management towards welfarism of the students, but rather to go with his taught, they expelled him.

But are these not same students of the 1970s who stood against government and also their Institutions management in bad policies, and yet don’t want such to be replicated to them?

Are these not same people that stood against the decision of Federal Government to implement the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) because of their dubious lifestyles.

We need to know what we want and how to get these things, because going these way will never make us better but keep making us a sacred cow everywhere we found ourselves.
