Information Communication and Technology University has promised to partner with NYSC on ICT development for Corps Members especially with regards to specialized Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development.
The team leader from the school, Captain Chiroma Ahmed (Rtd) stated this during a courtesy visit to NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim at the National Directorate Headquarters, Abuja.
He said the importance of ICT cannot be overemphasized as it can be deployed to every human endeavour.
Also, the President, ICT University Foundation, USA, Professor Victor Mbarika who was among the team said the ICT University would assist the NYSC Scheme towards taking it to higher pedestal.
He stated further that efforts are on-going to cite the West African Campus of the Institution in Nigeria.
“We want to partner with NYSC on specialized ICT areas and introduce Corps Members to specialized skills and we will set up one multimedia laboratory in NYSC Headquarters, Abuja”.
“We need to look at special skills in artificial intelligence, health information technology, cyber security and other specialized areas of ICT”, Mbarika said.
The DG, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim in his response expressed delight at the visit.
He said the NYSC Scheme in partnership with some stakeholders has made soft loans available for Corps Members to start their own businesses and become self reliant.
“Corps Members are reservoir of knowledge and skills with full potentials, the Scheme will make use of this golden opportunity to improve the standard of training of the Corps Members”, the DG said.
