The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has announced an increase in electricity tariffs for Band A customers, from N206.80/kWh to N209.50/kWh, effective immediately.
This development was made public through a notice signed by the Acting Managing Director, Francis Agoha, on Wednesday.
According to Agoha, the tariff increase has been approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) as captured in the multi-year tariff supplementary order.
The adjustment is attributed to key economic indices such as fluctuations in the exchange rate, the current inflation rate, available generation capacity, and the cost of gas, which have significantly impacted operational costs.
The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company claimed that the new tariffs would mitigate these financial pressures while continuing to deliver high-quality electricity services.
However, the company reassured customers that the adjustment only affects Band A customers, while tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E remain unchanged.
Agoha stated, “We remain committed to providing reliable and efficient electricity services to all our customers across different bands. We understand that any change in tariffs can be a concern for our customers, and we assure you that this adjustment is necessary to maintain and improve the quality of our services. Our goal is to ensure that you receive the best possible value for your money.”
This development comes amid concerns over estimated billing and exploitation of customers by electricity distribution companies. Nigerians have lamented being billed high estimates despite not enjoying electricity, as reported by SaharaReporters.
