In a brazen act of violence, a group of hoodlums on Monday, stormed the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in Ado Ekiti, targeting the Accident and Emergency Complex and forcibly seizing the corpse of a deceased man .

Expressing grave concern over the incident, the Chief Medical Director of EKSUTH, Prof. Kayode Olabanji, strongly condemned the hoodlums’ actions.

He assured the public that the police were actively involved in addressing the matter.

The perpetrators, reportedly incensed by the man’s demise, seized the opportunity to raid the Accident and Emergency Ward, sparking outrage within the hospital community. In response,

Prof. Olabanji issued a stern statement through the Head of Corporate Affairs, Rolake Adewumi, emphasizing that the hospital’s management would not tolerate any form of violence or disruption against its staff.

Taking immediate measures to enhance security, EKSUTH deployed four armed policemen to the Accident and Emergency area and stationed two more at the main gate.

Prof. Olabanji disclosed that a meeting with the state Chairman of the Road Transport Association had been held, tasking him to identify and produce the ringleader, believed to be associated with the organization.

To further fortify security, the hospital said it has engaged in collaboration with the police authorities, including regular patrols by the Division Police Officer of Oke-Ila Division, SP Sesan Falade.

Prof. Olabanji reassured the public that the individual responsible for a previous incident in the Neo-Natal Ward was already facing legal consequences, with the case underway in court.

Despite the unsettling events, the CMD urged hospital staff to remain calm, emphasizing that proactive measures were being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

He underscored the commitment of the management to protect its staff from any form of harassment while carrying out their duties.
