Gunmen Kill 20-Year-Old in Lagos, Police Launch Manhunt for Suspects

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a young man, tragically gunned down on the streets of Okokomaiko in the Ojo area of Lagos State.

The fatal incident reportedly took place on September 6, 2024, at approximately 9:10 p.m.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, it was disclosed that officers were alerted by concerned residents through an emergency call.

“We received reports indicating that a group of four unknown gunmen were seen pursuing a young man along Abeokuta Street, Okokomaiko,” Hundeyin said.

The attackers allegedly fired multiple shots at the victim, aiming at his head, torso, and legs, before swiftly escaping from the scene.

“Upon receiving the distress call at around 9:30 p.m., our anti-crime unit was immediately deployed to the location,” Hundeyin explained. “At the scene, they met Ms. Vivian, the mother of the victim, who confirmed that the deceased was her 20-year-old son. The victim, whose name is being withheld for security purposes, had suffered several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead.”

The authorities documented the scene by taking photographs, and the body was transferred to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for further investigation and autopsy.

In response to the heinous act, the police have intensified their search for the perpetrators. Hundeyin reassured the public that the investigation is progressing swiftly, and that no effort will be spared in ensuring justice is served.

“This violent crime will not go unpunished. Our officers are working diligently to track and apprehend the suspects,” he affirmed.

The case has been handed over for a more discreet investigation, with the police urging the public to come forward with any valuable information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible.
