In a significant development, Governor Godwin Obaseki has named Omobayo Marvellous Godwins, a 38-year-old Engineer, as his new deputy following the removal of Comrade Philip Shaibu.

Omobayo, a native of Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the State born on July 19, 1986, boasts an impressive background in engineering, particularly in the oil and gas sector. Holding a B.Eng Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and an MSc in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN), he brings a wealth of expertise to the role.

A registered member of both the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Omobayo has excelled as a Senior Maintenance Engineer in Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited, showcasing his skills in the South South region.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Omobayo has been actively involved in local politics, fostering trust among the people and rallying them for common causes, despite facing opposition.

If confirmed by the assembly, Omobayo will work alongside Governor Obaseki for the remainder of their term.

This appointment comes after Shaibu’s fallout with the governor, stemming from his bid to succeed him despite their initial alliance in the 2016 and 2020 elections.
