The Ogun State Government has extended a donation of N200 million to Borno State, aimed at assisting victims of the devastating flood that recently swept through the state.

The flood, which wreaked havoc on property and displaced thousands of residents, prompted a swift response from both state and federal authorities.

Governor Dapo Abiodun had earlier conveyed his condolences to the people and government of Borno, praising the state’s quick response to the disaster.

“The swift action taken by the Borno State Government alongside federal interventions has been commendable during this difficult time,” the governor said in his earlier message.

Announcing the financial support on Saturday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, explained that the N200 million donation is meant to provide immediate relief and help mitigate the effects of the catastrophe.

“This gesture is aimed at supporting the victims and offering immediate assistance to those affected by this unimaginable humanitarian crisis,” Akinmade stated, emphasizing the need for national solidarity in moments like this.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had earlier reported that the floods were triggered by the overflow of the Alau Dam following heavy rainfall, marking the worst flooding the town has seen in three decades. With 414,000 people displaced and 30 lives lost in Maiduguri alone, the scale of the disaster has been overwhelming.

The Ogun State Government’s contribution is part of a broader effort to bring relief to the thousands of people impacted, as many are in dire need of shelter, food, and medical aid.
