A recent report by BudgIT Research, a prominent socioeconomic and civic organization, has ranked Ogun State among the top-performing states in Nigeria on the “State of States Performance” Index A.

The ranking highlights Ogun’s strong economic viability and reduced dependence on federal allocations.

In the list of 36 states evaluated, Rivers State took the lead with a score of 0.82, closely followed by Lagos at 0.84, while Ogun secured the third position with a score of 1.48.

According to BudgIT, states that rank higher on Index A “have comparatively limited dependence on federally distributed revenue for their operations and thus have greater viability if they were to theoretically exist as an independent entity.”

This ranking aligns with findings from a recent National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report, which identified Ogun State as one of the least dependent on revenue from the federation account, further reinforcing the state’s economic resilience.

Reacting to the report, Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed pride in Ogun’s achievement, crediting it to the various economic policies his administration has implemented.

“Our administration has been able to grow the economic base of the state to an enviable position where it no longer needs to rely too much on federal allocations,” Abiodun stated, applauding the impact of his government’s efforts on the state’s financial independence.
