Students across Kwara State have commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his substantial investments in education and their welfare.
Representing the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS), the students gathered at the Government House on Monday to express their appreciation for his administration’s efforts.
The NANS President, Comrade Issa Abdulgafar Arikewuyo, described AbdulRazaq as a leader deeply committed to educational development.
He said, “To whom much is given, much is expected. We would be ungrateful if we didn’t show the world that the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum is a student-friendly personality. Governor AbdulRazaq has turned students into people of value through his interventions.”
Arikewuyo highlighted key achievements of the administration, including the establishment of the Kwara State University of Education, installation of solar lighting at Kwara State University Malete, and the provision of 250 ICT facilities for students at the College of Aviation in Ilorin.
NAKSS President, Comrade Abdulwahab Habibullahi, also praised the Governor for introducing scholarships for law students, donating a bus to the students’ union, and implementing a free bus ride scheme for students.
“Today is a remarkable day in the history of students in Kwara State. We appreciate His Excellency for his unwavering support and commitment to students’ welfare,” he said.
In his address, Governor AbdulRazaq thanked the students for their visit and assured them of his administration’s continued engagement and support.
He encouraged them to maintain open communication with his government.
“I must say that your leadership engagement with the government has been fruitful for the state. It will continue to elicit positive responses to support your activities and improve the student bodies,” he said. “On our part, we will ensure that students are accommodated in our empowerment programmes to make life easier for them. Don’t hesitate to propose initiatives to us.”
The Governor also praised the Special Assistant on Students Affairs, Wasiu Onidugbe, for his proactive approach to promoting student welfare.
Onidugbe explained that the visit was part of activities marking the Annual Unity and Harmony Week, designed to foster unity among Kwara students.
“This year, the students deemed it fit to celebrate and appreciate you for your outstanding contributions to their welfare and the education sector,” Onidugbe said.
The Governor received the students alongside members of his cabinet, including the Chief of Staff, Prince AbdulKadir Mahe.
