Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has commended the Management of National Youth Service Corps over its continuous efforts towards sanitising the mobilisation process which has prevented the enlistment of fake graduates into National Service.
He stated this today in Asaba while declaring open the 2020 Batch ‘A’ Pre-Mobilisation Workshop with the theme, “Effective Stakeholders Engagement for Seamless Corps Mobilization Process”.
The Governor described NYSC as a proactive agency which values stakeholders’ role in the attainment of its mandate.
Speaking further, Dr Okowa urged the workshop participants to appraise previous mobilization exercises with a view to addressing identified challenges and evolve strategies for continuous improvement.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Comrade Ifeanyi Egwunyenga, the Governor also advised the participants to make useful contributions and come up with resolutions that will form the springboard for greater performance in the task of enlisting youths for national service.
“I urge you not to rest on your oars as posterity will always remember every courageous and patriotic stance in the interest of our dear country”.
“I have followed with keen interest, media reports of NYSC’s giant strides in further sanitising the mobilisation process, especially through sustained measures to detect and block the enlistment of fake graduates”.
“We shall not relent in our on-going efforts aimed at providing befitting facilities at the Permanent Orientation Camp Issele-uku, including accommodation for Corps Members in all parts of the State”, the Governor said.
Okowa further reiterated the continuous support of the State Government to the Scheme through enhanced security and general welfare of Corps Members deployed to the State.
The Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim in his welcome address decried the emerging trend among youths who try to cut corners by going to foreign countries especially within the West-African Sub-Region to buy Certificates for degree courses they never attended.
He added that the Scheme would not mobilise unqualified persons for National Service or issue exemption certificate as the case may be.
General Ibrahim advised parents and guardians whose children are pursuing academic programmes in tertiary institutions at home and abroad to always ensure strict monitoring of their progress so as to ensure that they are not involved in any fraudulent act due to their desperation to acquire academic qualification at all cost.
“Management also wishes to advise parents whose wards are studying overseas to ensure that they make themselves available for National Service immediately they complete their studies to avoid contravention of the NYSC Act”.
“Such undergraduates are also encouraged to always visit our website, www.nysc.gov.ng and our social media platforms to acquaint themselves with guidelines on mobilisation”, the DG added.
The Director Corps Mobilization, Mrs Victoria Ango in her remarks said the workshop is an avenue for real time appraisal of strengths and weaknesses.
The workshop had in attendance, Students Affairs Officers of all Corps Producing Institutions in the country, representatives of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) among other stakeholders.
