The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has initiated a ₦5 billion lawsuit against Yoruba Nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, alleging a violation of privacy rights.
Adams claims Igboho illegally recorded and shared a private phone conversation between him and another individual without permission, a move Adams asserts has tarnished his reputation.
Filed in the Oyo State High Court under suit number M/1006/2024, Adams is seeking the enforcement of his fundamental rights as enshrined in Section 37 of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, which protects privacy rights.
In his suit, Adams describes the public release of private conversations as “unlawful, illegal, and unconstitutional,” and characterized Igboho’s actions as “reckless and injurious” to his position as the Aare Ona Kakanfo.
The statement further reveals that Igboho allegedly shared the recorded conversation on social media in April 2024, causing “serious embarrassment” for Adams.
He argues that this action violated his privacy, prompting him to demand exemplary damages to address what he describes as significant harm to his reputation.
