FRSC’s Shehu Mohammed Deploys Breathalysers to Combat Drunk Driving During Eid-el-Kabir
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has announced the deployment of breathalysers at motor parks and highways to prevent drunk driving. Mohammed revealed this while speaking to journalists on Friday in Abuja, noting that the deployment was done in partnership with the Beer Sectorial Group (BSG).
He emphasized that the purpose of this deployment is to identify and stop drivers who operate vehicles under the influence of alcohol, thereby reducing the likelihood of accidents and fatalities on the roads.
Mohammed highlighted the significant risk posed by drivers who engage in substance use before driving, often leading to tragic crashes. He mentioned that the FRSC has also intensified awareness campaigns targeting all road users, with a particular focus on educating drivers directly at their loading bays, transit camps, and trailer parks.
The goal of these efforts is to appeal to the conscience of drivers, encouraging them to abide by traffic regulations and avoid unnecessary risks. Mohammed urged motorists, especially passengers, to play their part in promoting road safety by reporting reckless drivers to FRSC personnel or other security agencies on the highways.
With the widespread deployment of breathalysers and anticipated public cooperation, the FRSC is optimistic about ensuring a safe and successful Eid-el-Kabir celebration. Mohammed reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to enhancing road safety and wished all Nigerians a peaceful and joyous Eid-El-Kabir celebration.
