In a heart-stopping match that went to penalties, France edged out Portugal 5-3 to secure a semifinal berth against Spain. The intense showdown saw both teams struggle to find the back of the net, with the game ending goalless after regular time.

France’s Lucas Hernandez stepped up to score the winning penalty, while Portugal’s João Felix hit the post, handing France the advantage. The French team capitalized on the opportunity, converting all five of their penalties with ease.

Despite Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa’s heroic efforts, including three penalty saves against Slovakia in the previous round, France’s flawless penalty kicks sealed their victory.

The win means France advances to the semifinals, where they will face Spain on July 9 in Munich. Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Euro 2024 campaign comes to a close, marking the end of an era for the Portuguese star.
