Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has lauded former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a prominent advocate for political emancipation and good governance.
The accolades were expressed during a lecture marking Chief Obasanjo’s 87th birthday titled, “Quality Leadership and Inclusive Democracy as Catalysts for Development in a Strife-Ridden World” at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Governor Abiodun, recognizing Chief Obasanjo’s global influence, described him as a world-respected democratic leader, a detribalized Nigerian, and a Pan-African with a passion for quality leadership and economic development in Africa.
“Baba has become a world-respected democratic leader, a detribalised Nigerian, and a Pan-African whose passion and vision is for Africa that is being led by quality leadership for the desired economic development.
“Baba is deeply connected to his roots. Baba’s passion for his culture and tradition is unparalleled.
“Baba remains the leading voice in his quest for political emancipation, good governance, anti-corruption and social justice,” he said.
Praising the former president’s commitment to political emancipation, good governance, anti-corruption, and social justice, the governor commended Chief Obasanjo’s far-sightedness and mentorship of leaders.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan, who chaired the lecture, identified access to justice, election quality, and tribalism as challenges to quality leadership in Africa.
He emphasized the need to address winner-takes-it-all politics and advocated for inclusiveness in governance.
In his remarks, former President of Slovenia and Chairman of Club De Madrid, Danilo Turk, revealed the club’s engagement in establishing a global body to combat corruption.
He affirmed the club’s unwavering dedication to ensuring the success of democracy worldwide, emphasizing the importance of giving people choices beyond the elite class in any country.
