A crucial bridge connecting more than 50 communities in the Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State has collapsed due to torrential rainfall. The Ipin River Bridge, unable to withstand the heavy downpour, has left many residents isolated.

Local inhabitants are urgently seeking government intervention to address the situation. According to witnesses, the rain began on Friday, October 11, 2024, and continued into Saturday morning, ultimately leading to the bridge’s failure.

“It is common knowledge that nobody can prevent rain from falling during its season, but this particular downpour was unprecedented. The bridge serves as a route to over 50 communities in Ibarapa East,” stated a resident from Eruwa.

The affected communities are appealing to Hon. Kazeem Arogundade, the Chairman of Ibarapa East Local Government, to accelerate reconstruction efforts.

Additionally, they have called upon Adebo Ogundoyin, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and their representative, to ensure prompt action is taken to restore connectivity.
