Five Bills Scale First Reading In Ogun Assembly, As Speaker Calls For Prosecution Of Cultists

Five bills including the Ogun State Judicial Officers Administration of Pensions Law, 2020, Ogun State Legislative Administration of Pensions Law, 2020 and Ogun State Public Procurement (Amendment) Law, 2020 today scaled first reading in the Hallowed Chambers of the State House of Assembly.

Others are Ogun State Statistics (Amendment) Law, 2020 and Ogun State Waste Management Authority Law, 2020, which were read for the first time before the lawmakers by the Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Mr. ‘Deji Adeyemo at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The bills are with the long titles: “H.B. No 042/OG/2020- A Bill for a Law to transfer the responsibility, administration and payment of pensions of Ogun State Judicial Officers from the Department of Establishments and Pensions in the Office of the Head of Service of Ogun State to the Ogun State Judicial Service Commission for the payment of pension and other retirement benefits and other related matters; H.B. No 043/OG/2020- A Bill for a Law to transfer the responsibility, administration and payment of pensions of Ogun State Legislative Officers from the Department of Establishment and Pensions in the Office of the Head of Service of Ogun State to the Ogun State House of Assembly Service Commission for the payment of pensions and other retirement benefits and other related matters”.

Others are “H.B. 046/OG/2020- A bill for a law to amend the Ogun State Public Procurement Law, 2014; H.B. 047/OG/2020- A Bill for a law to amend the Ogun State Statistics Law, 2012 and H.B. 048/OG/2020- A Bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority and other matters connected therewith”.

In another development, Speaker Oluomo has called on the State Command of the Nigerian Police Force to step up measures towards carrying out a thorough investigation into the crisis within the transport union at Ijebu-Igbo which led to the vandalization of properties, with a view to arresting and prosecuting perpetrators as well as ensuring arrest of cultists involved in various criminal acts in the area.

The Speaker stated this while responding to the submissions of his Deputy, Oludare Kadiri, representing Ijebu North 2, and his Ijebu North I counterpart, Sylvester Abiodun under Personal Explanations, on the crisis and leadership tussle within the transport union in the area.
