• Passport Fee Hike Sparks Outrage Among Nigerians

• Applicants Abroad Not Affected

Apart of its efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, the Federal Government has approved an upward review of the fees for the Passport effective from 1st September, 2024.

In a statement released tonight August 21, the Nigeria Immigration Service says based on the review, a 32-page Passport booklet with 5 year validity previously charged at Thirty-five Thousand Naira (N35,000.00) will now be Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00) only; while 64-page Passport booklet with 10 year validity which was Seventy Thousand Naira (N70,000.00) will be One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) only.

According to the statement, the fees remain unchanged in Diaspora.

“While the Nigeria Immigration Service regrets any inconvenience this increase might cause prospective applicants; it assures Nigerians of unwavering commitment to transparency and quality service delivery at all times.” the statement reads in part

Amin Snoussi reacted, “You’re increasing the cost of obtaining international passports at a time when citizens are barely able to afford 2 square meals on a daily? And what about those already submitted passport renewals and and change of data applications which are yet to be produced, have you guys.”

@AkomoledeF8915 reacted, “Keep on increasing everything, bag of rice increased, Garri and beans, fuel, vehicles, motorcycles, motor parts, custom duty fee are on all the increase. Now passport again…… Make una kuku kii us ooo.”

“Who do this country, ah!!! They don’t want the citizens to flee the hardship yet they have homes abroad, diplomatic passports, kids are citizens, and they go abroad for health care.

” They enjoy all of that and don’t want the citizens of Nigeria of Nigeria to have peace. May they also experience the kind of hardship they’re metting on Nigeria and so many ways than one.”
