The Federal Ministry of Works has ended contracts with three companies – Mothercat Ltd, Dantata & Sawoe Construction Ltd, and RCC Ltd – citing non-performance on the Obajana-Benin road dualization project.
In a statement on Monday, the Special Adviser (Media) to the Minister of Works, Orji Uchenna, explained that the termination was due to significant delays and the contractors’ failure to meet their contractual obligations.
Minister David Umahi instructed engineers to take over the project sites and evaluate completed work for a smooth transition from the contractors.
The contracts, originally awarded in 2012 and valued at billions of naira, were abandoned, causing severe inconvenience to road users due to the road’s poor condition.
Umahi emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards contractor negligence and sabotage, affirming that all funded yet non-performing contracts would face termination henceforth.
This action underscores the Renewed Hope administration’s commitment to addressing Nigeria’s infrastructure challenges and improving road networks nationwide.
