Kaduna, Nigeria – In a bid to revitalize the ginger industry, the Federal Government has initiated a comprehensive support program for smallholder ginger farmers affected by the 2023 epidemic.
The N1.6 billion package, donated by the National Agricultural Development Fund, aims to recover ginger production and support farmers’ livelihoods.
Over 5,000 farmers from seven local governments will benefit from the program, receiving input packages containing fertilizers, seeds, and herbicides to cultivate alternative crops.
The initiative marks a significant step towards revitalizing the industry and ensuring food security.
The launch event, attended by dignitaries including the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, and the Executive Secretary of the National Agricultural Development Fund, signifies a commitment to supporting Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
A more extensive support package is planned for both small and large-scale ginger farmers, further solidifying the government’s dedication to the industry’s recovery.
