On Tuesday, the Federal Government categorically refuted a news report suggesting a coup scare in the country. Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, labeled the report as “unequivocally false” and denounced it as a malicious act of disinformation.
In a statement released in Abuja by the Minister’s media aide, Rabiu Ibrahim, the public was urged to disregard the report aimed at sowing discord, with Idris emphasizing that it is a product of the warped imagination of detractors seeking to destabilize the country and undermine the current administration.
The Minister asserted that the government remains focused on ongoing reforms to revitalize the economy and ensure prosperity for the citizens, vowing not to be distracted or intimidated.
Idris warned against the spread of fake news aimed at eroding public trust, emphasizing the government’s commitment to utilizing legal means to counter actions that threaten national security and democracy.
He called on the public to exercise discernment and avoid amplifying baseless reports strategically planted on certain news platforms to subvert the nation’s democracy.
