The Zone 2 Police Command in Lagos has arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly posing as a medical doctor with forged certificates.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the zone, Olatoye Durosinmi, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday while parading the suspect before reporters.
According to Durosinmi, the suspect, who claimed to be the Managing Director of Skylink Medical Centre in Ikorodu, was arrested by operatives of the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit following intelligence gathered from the Elepe community.
A search of the suspect’s hospital revealed two suspected forged certificates from Obafemi Awolowo University and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), as well as hospital equipment.
The suspect confessed to producing the certificates electronically and admitted to only having a West African School Certificate (WASC) qualification.
He also revealed that he had six staff members, including two trained nurses and four amateurs, and had previously worked as a nursing assistant at Fabo Medical Centre in Lagos before establishing his own hospital.
The hospital has been sealed pending the outcome of the investigation. The police are working to ensure that the suspect faces justice for his alleged crimes.
