FactCheckElections Reviews Team Performance, Set to Continue Campaign Against Information Disorder in Nigeria

LAGOS, NIGERIA – FactcheckElections, dedicated to fact-checking fake news related to election activities in Nigeria, has announced the successful conclusion of its first quarter assessment meeting. The meeting, which took place on April 5th, 2023, involved a review of the platform’s performance during the just-concluded Nigeria general elections and planning ahead for subsequent tasks.

 

During the assessment meeting, the team members reviewed their performance during the Nigeria general elections. The team members had put in a tremendous effort towards the success of the platform, which included identifying and debunking fake news, providing accurate information to the public, and increasing awareness of the importance of fact-checking.

As part of its strategic plan for subsequent tasks, FactcheckElection has outlined various activities aimed at promoting accountability in the electoral process. The platform plans to focus on fact-checking campaign promises made by political parties and their candidates during elections.

 

The platform will also focus on engaging with social media platforms to curb the spread of fake news and disinformation during elections. The team will collaborate with other stakeholders to organize training and capacity-building programs to enhance the skills of journalists, civil society organizations, and other relevant stakeholders in the electoral process.

 

In addition, the platform plans to leverage technology to enhance its fact-checking activities. The team will explore the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tools to identify and analyze fake news and disinformation during elections. This approach will help to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the platform’s activities.
