Professor Mercy Anyiwe, a leading expert in Statistics and Health Economics, has unveiled groundbreaking economic models to tackle Nigeria’s current economic woes and pave the way for prosperity.
As the immediate past Chairman of the Nigeria Economic Society, Edo State Chapter (NES-EDO), Prof. Anyiwe shared her proposals with our reporter on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
The innovative solutions were presented during the recently concluded South-South Economic Summit, organized by NES-EDO in collaboration with the University of Benin’s Department of Economics in Benin City, Edo State. Prof. Anyiwe’s lectures emphasized the urgent need for Nigeria to adopt new economic strategies for sustainable development.
She introduced the “Rethink, Reshift, and Re-arrange” economic models, which she believes can drive economic recovery and help Nigeria overcome its present challenges if implemented effectively.
In her words: “The summit aimed to identify solutions for Nigeria’s economic challenges as detailed in the event’s communique. These challenges are: Inflation, exchange rate instability and other factors that had hindered Nigeria’s economic recovery”.
“At the summit, we joined forces with other scholars and proposed the following solutions to Nigeria’s economic challenges. These are: Shifting towards productivity, functional Institutions, robust security, accountability, and a more cost effective system of government”.
“The South-South Economic Summit also featured a Book Launch, election of new executives for the South-South Zone and Edo State Chapter”.
